.618 is an approximation to the golden ratio. Putting .5 == 1/2 will create 2 spokes. Similarly .6 == 3/5 will create 5 spokes.

Try c.width|=0. This uses the "bitwise or" operator on the width, which does nothing with zero. Any time width is written to, the canvas is cleared
